And when a flood arose, the stream broke against that house and could not shake it, because it had been well built. But the one who hears and does not do them is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. When the stream broke against it, immediately it fell, and the ruin of that house was great.””

Repent today. People aren’t kept from the Kingdom because of a specific sin or sins. They’re outside of Christ because they’ve not surrendered their whole lives to Him. Even one sin separates us from God for eternity. We need total forgiveness that comes from a real, saving relationship with Christ. So, what does this look like? It looks like turning to Jesus willing to forsake everything— from our freedom to make choices ignoring what His word says to our most endearing idol-our comfort. But we won’t do that if we think we’re overall “good.” The Bible teaches that “none are good.” Every sin, whether in action or only in thought, deserve the wrath of God. There are no “small sins.” God hates sin and will not overlook a single one. The weight of our guilt should cause us to tremble before our righteous God and run to the Savior. Our love for Him and thankfulness for His forgiveness should create in us hearts that are sold out for Jesus, and that love should grow and not diminish each passing year. Our faithfulness to read, pray, serve the body, assemble, disciple our children and grandchildren in the scriptures, etc should be increasing as He conforms us to the image of His Son. If this is not true of you, like Paul warns in 2 Corinthians, examine yourself to be sure you’re in the faith. It’s easy to be deceived. Don’t trust your feelings. Look to scripture. Test your fruit by what it says and beg Him to show you what you’re missing. Read the book of 1 John. It says that the Christian obeys God, loves Him and His word, loves the Church, and does not walk in the ways of the world. Is that you?

“For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness, and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love. For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they keep you from being ineffective or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. For whoever lacks these qualities is so nearsighted that he is blind, having forgotten that he was cleansed from his former sins. Therefore, brothers, be all the more diligent to confirm your calling and election, for if you practice these qualities you will never fall. For in this way there will be richly provided for you an entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.”
