Answers in Genesis is an organization founded and led by Ken Ham that is dedicated to proving that the Bible’s account of creation recorded in Genesis is true and can be supported scientifically. It has aroused a great deal of controversy. It is strongly supported by many Bible believers. It is disliked by unbelievers who accept the popular idea that life evolved over millions of years and even by some Christians who also accept this belief. (For a long time I was in this group. I was a Christian but I also believed that the theory of evolution had been scientifically proven. If I had known of Answers in Genesis I would probably have believed that what it was teaching was false. In the last few years I have come to realized that in fact there is no evidence supporting evolution.) Read the rest of this entry

The amount of money (hundreds of millions of dollars) already spent on the US 2020 elections, and what will be spent, makes the amount spent on building the Ark Encounter and the Creation Museum pale in comparison. Read the rest of this entry
Many people believe that science and the Bible contradict each other and that we must choose to believe one or the other. William T. Pelletier, also known as The Bible-Science Guy, has a blog that proves that this isn’t true. He discusses science from a Biblical point of view.
Here is his introduction.
Here is the table of contents for the blog.
The author of the blog doesn’t do his job alone. He has a Jack Russell terrier named Kepler who sometimes who sometimes contributes articles. (I suspect that he has some help from his master.) Here is Kepler’s latest post.
On October 31 1517 Martin Luther nailed his famous 95 Theses to the door of a church in Wittenburg, Germany. He claimed that the Church had departed from accepting the Bible as its sole authority and that many of the doctrines it taught were based on human traditions and opinions. This was the beginning of the Protestant Reformation.
Today there is a new error that is causing many Christians to reject the Bible’s authority. Most people believe that the earth is millions of years old and that all life developed by a process of evolution. This belief is so pervasive that many Christians accept it and interpret the first 11 chapters of Genesis to accommodate it. Read the rest of this entry
Genesis 6-9 tells the story of Noah. Mankind had grown so evil that God decided to send a flood to destroy them. Noah and his family were the only righteous people left in the world so God told him to build an ark to save his family and to take into the ark one pair of each kind of animal to save them from extinction.
Some Christians believe the flood was not really world wide but confined to the local area where Noah lived. If you are one of them I would be interested in hearing your opinion about something Peter wrote.
Scoffers will come in the last days with scoffing, following their own sinful desires. They will say, “Where is the promise of his coming? For ever since the fathers fell asleep, all things are continuing as they were from the beginning of creation.”
For they deliberately overlook this fact, that the heavens existed long ago, and the earth was formed out of water and through water by the word of God, and that by means of these the world that then existed was deluged with water and perished. But by the same word the heavens and earth that now exist are stored up for fire, being kept until the day of judgment and destruction of the ungodly. (2 Peter 3:3-7)
He said that in the past the world was deluged with water and perished and that in the future the heavens and earth that now exist will be destroyed with fire. If only part of the earth perished in the flood does that mean that the fire that will come in the future will only burn up part of the earth?
How old is the earth? If you asked most scientists they would tell you it is 4.5 billion years old. If you asked a Christian who believes the creation account in Genesis is literally true he would tell you it is only a few thousand years old. Those who believe the earth is old claim that their view is supported by scientific evidence and that young earth creationists reject science. Our rejection of the belief that the earth is billions of years old isn’t based on science but on history. The Bible reveals that earth was created by God and later there was a worldwide flood which created the majority of the fossils that we find today. In a previous post I showed some of the scientific evidence which supports this belief.
From what I have written so far it appears that all Christians believe the earth is young while others believe it is old. Most of you are aware that this isn’t the case. There are Christians who believe the Bible and yet at the same time believe the earth is old and for a long time I was one of them. I have been a Christian for almost 60 years and for the first 50 of those years I believed the earth was billions of years old. I reconciled these beliefs by believing in the Gap Theory. Here is an article that explains what the gap theory is and why it is unbiblical. Read the rest of this entry
I believe that God created the earth in six literal days, just as the first chapter of Genesis says. The scientific “evidence” that supposedly contradicts the Bible’s account is based on the belief that all the natural processes we see today have always been going on and there has never been any divine intervention in the operation of the universe. This belief is such a pervasive part of our culture that even Christians have accepted it and have tried to interpret the first part of Genesis to accommodate it. I have written several posts in support of the biblical view and the Recommended Sites page has links to sites that support it.
I have recently learned of a blog called apolojedi.com. It contains a post called Creation Manifesto which I consider to be one of the most complete summaries of the biblical and scientific arguments in favor of the Bible’s creation account. The main part is made up of links to others posts on the blog. My previous post contains a link to the manifesto but I think the subject is important enough to merit a post of its own. As many of you know, the organization Answers in Genesis is building a full size replica of Noah’s ark. The ark is almost completed and is scheduled to be open to visitors on July 7. You can learn the details at arkencounter.com.
Most people don’t believe a worldwide flood occurred. In his second letter Peter foretold this denial.

Imagine that a scientist invents a time machine, travels back in time, and meets Adam and Eve just a few days after they are created. If he knew nothing of the Bible’s account of their origin he would assume they had been conceived, born, and grown to maturity just as other people have. If he tried to estimate their ages from their appearance he would conclude they were much older than they really were.
But suppose he noticed that they had no navels. Would he come to the correct conclusion that they had been specially created by God or would he stick to his belief that they had been born just as other humans are and try to find some other explanation for their lack of navels? The Bible tells us that the human race grew so wicked that God sent a worldwide flood to destroy it. He only found one righteous man, Noah, and he warned him to build an ark to save himself and his family from the flood. You can read the complete story here: Genesis 6-9
The Bible isn’t the only record of this flood. Other cultures all over the world have legends of a worldwide flood in which only a few humans were saved to repopulate the world. This article contains a list of some of these legends: Flood Legends From Around the World Read the rest of this entry
The first chapter of Genesis tells us that God made the earth is six days. Here is what he did on the fourth day.
And God said, “Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night. And let them be for signs and for seasons, and for days and years, and let them be lights in the expanse of the heavens to give light upon the earth.” And it was so.
It would appear that he created the rest of the universe at this time. The problem with this belief is that many of the stars are so far away that it takes millions of years for the light from them to reach the earth. Young earth creationists have come up with several explanations for this problem. You can read some of them here: Does Distant Starlight Prove the Universe Is Old?
I believe there is a different explanation. The Bible says that God placed lights in the sky; it doesn’t say he created the bodies that produced those lights at that time. I have written a post in which I explain the reasons I believe this: Young earth, old universe . Read the rest of this entry
Many critics of the Bible claim that it begins with two contradictory creation accounts. They say that chapter 1 describes a six day creation in which plants and animals are created before humans and chapter 2 describes the creation of plants and animals after the first human was created.
Actually the first two chapters of the Bible contain three creation accounts and if you study them carefully you will find there are no contradictions between them. Read the rest of this entry
The Bible tells us that God made Eve out of one of Adam’s ribs.
The LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and while he slept took one of his ribs and closed up its place with flesh. And the rib that the LORD God had taken from the man he made into a woman and brought her to the man.
This account is so clear that there can be no doubt about what happened. God removed a bone from Adam’s side and replaced it with flesh. He then transformed that bone into Eve, the first woman.
But there may be more to the story than that. I have seen Bibles in which there is a footnote to the word “rib” saying that it can also mean “part of a side”. And here is something I found on the site gotquestions.org.
The planet (or ex-planet) Pluto is believed to be about 4.5 billion years old. We have recently learned a lot more about Pluto as a result of the New Horizons mission.
New Horizons has discovered a region of cold, dense ionized gas tens of thousands of miles beyond Pluto — the planet’s atmosphere being stripped away by the solar wind and lost to space. Beginning an hour and half after closest approach, the Solar Wind Around Pluto (SWAP) instrument observed a cavity in the solar wind — the outflow of electrically charged particles from the Sun — between 48,000 miles (77,000 km) and 68,000 miles (109,000 km) downstream of Pluto. SWAP data revealed this cavity to be populated with nitrogen ions forming a “plasma tail” of undetermined structure and length extending behind the planet.
One thing we have discovered is that Pluto’s atmosphere is being stripped away from it. If this process had been going on for billions of years how likely is it that Pluto would still have any atmosphere left? This is evidence that Pluto and the rest of the solar system are much younger that is generally believed.
NASA scientists have discovered a planet they named Kepler-452b but which is also called Earth 2.0 because it is more like earth than any other planet yet discovered. Because of its similarity there is speculation that it might contain life similar to that found on earth.
Dr. Jeff Schweitzer wrote an article in Huffington Post called Earth 2.0: Bad News for God in which he claimed that the discovery of life on this planet would be evidence that the Bible is not true. Here is the link: Earth 2.0: Bad News for God .
The article shows he hasn’t read the Bible very carefully.
The Bible tells us that God created the earth in six days. Many scientists who have studied the earth and tried to measure its age have reached the conclusion that is approximately 4.5 billion years old. Most people accept the second view as being correct; they believe that scientists examine the evidence with an open mind and believe only those things which have been proven.
The late Carl Sagan wrote many books proving that the present state of the earth and the rest of the universe is the result of processes that took billions of years. He helped to produce a television series called Cosmos that was broadcast in 1980 and claimed to show how the universe developed.
Imagine that you are a physician on a hospital staff and another doctor at the hospital discovers a procedure that dramatically reduces the death rate of its patients. Wouldn’t you and the other doctors at the hospital eagerly adopt the procedure and practice it yourselves? The answer is so obvious to most people that it seems stupid to even ask such a question. But a doctor name Ignaz Semmelweis did discover such a process and the other doctors rejected it. Here is Wikipedia’s description of what happened.
Many people believe the earth is billions of years old; the Bible tells us that God created it in six days. Some Christians try to reconcile these two beliefs by saying that the days of creation aren’t literal days but simply long periods of time.
The word “day” can mean an indefinite time period and it is used that way in the creation account.
These are the generations
of the heavens and the earth when they were created,
in the day that the LORD God made the earth and the heavens.
Here the entire time of creation is called a day. But what about the days in the first chapter? Here is a description of the first day.
And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. And God saw that the light was good. And God separated the light from the darkness. God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, the first day.
Each day included a period of light and one of darkness and consisted of an evening and a morning. Only a literal day consisting of the time the earth turns once on its axis has these characteristics.
Christians are divided between Young Earth Creationists and Old Earth Creationists. The first group believes that the days of creation in Genesis 1 are literal days; the second believes that there is scientific evidence that the earth is billions of years old and the creation account must be interpreted to conform to this evidence. In fact the research that leads to the belief that the earth is old fails to take into consideration the possibility of divine intervention in the running of the universe. One of my previous posts deals with this subject:
There is scientific evidence that the earth can’t be as old as is generally believed and at the end of this post I list some sites where you can find this evidence.
Some people claim that young earth creation can’t be true because the earth looks old. The earth does look old and there is a very good reason for that. It is old.
