Police

Here is something I read on Facebook.

Police

by Emily Thomes

Apparently it’s viewed by some as acceptable for Christians to mock police officers— not those that have actually committed offenses worthy of such, but all cops. Meanwhile, my husband is still not home from working his second straight night because he and the other night officers are out looking for a disabled teen who may be in danger.

I’m just sick after seeing a thread of those I would have considered mature and trustworthy brethren go back and forth with uncharitable, un-Christlike memes pertaining to the validity and effectiveness of law enforcement. Our system is a poor one, and many in that position do choose to use it as a means to sin horrifically.

HOWEVER, some are our brothers and sisters in Christ who very much desire to be a light through their actions. Ben shares the gospel with those that he interacts with. He’s offered pregnant women who are afraid good resources and went as far as offering to adopt one woman’s child if she’d allow us. He’s comforted those who were miserable in their drug addiction and other sin with the hope of Jesus and the cross. As an officer, Ben walks in the good works the Lord prepared for him to walk in (Ephesians 2:10), and his family endures his crazy schedule so he can do so.

All of us know that some officers have abused their authority. But how often is it wise to lump in all because of the bad actions of some? Is that how Christ would desire we regard His bride? Is that how you’d like to be discussed based on your profession or some other part of your life? For those who desire to be above reproach and to love your brothers and sisters, please consider your words here. I have unfriended those that were involved and will do so if I see it again because I do not need to see that kind of behavior and don’t want to sin in my heart when I do.

  1. I’m sharing this to my FB page as I want it to go around to more people. Policemen, firemen, EMTs—all deserve our utmost respect until they personally and individually lose it. I’m glad that, as a Christian, I am not judged by the sins of other professing Christians.
