Exodus 20:11

The first chapter of Genesis tells us that God made the earth is six days.  Here is what he did on the fourth day.

And God said, “Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night. And let them be for signs and for seasons, and for days and years, and let them be lights in the expanse of the heavens to give light upon the earth.” And it was so.
Genesis 1:14-15

It would appear that he created the rest of the universe at this time.  The problem with this belief is that many of the stars are so far away that it takes millions of years for the light from them to reach the earth.  Young earth creationists have come up with several explanations for this problem.  You can read some of them here: Does Distant Starlight Prove the Universe Is Old?

I believe there is a different explanation.  The Bible says that God placed lights in the sky; it doesn’t say he created the bodies that produced those lights at that time.  I have written a post in which I explain the reasons I believe this: Young earth, old universe . Read the rest of this entry
