Today is the most dangerous time for a gay person to be alive

In the past gay people were hated, discriminated against, and sometimes physically attacked.  Today we live in a society which accepts being gay as normal and even allows persons of the same sex to get married.  In fact, it seems as if the reality is just the opposite of the title of this post.  If this life were the only one we had, that would be correct.  There is one problem.  We must all die.

It is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment.  (Hebrews 9:27)

Relativism

Here is something I read on Facebook.  It is in response to this article.

Relativism

by Ken Ham

The article states: “Social progressivism has left us after the past two decades in a place where marriage is whatever we want it to be, gender is whatever we want it to be, and even history is whatever we think we need it to be to solve today’s problems. All is relativism” This is true, but why? Read the rest of this entry

Are you blind?

Israel and Syria were at war.  Elisha frequently warned the king of Israel about Syria’s plans.

Once when the king of Syria was warring against Israel, he took counsel with his servants, saying, “At such and such a place shall be my camp.” But the man of God sent word to the king of Israel, “Beware that you do not pass this place, for the Syrians are going down there.”And the king of Israel sent to the place about which the man of God told him. Thus he used to warn him, so that he saved himself there more than once or twice.  (2 Kings 6:8-10)

Is polyamory next?

Here is something I read on Facebook.

Is polyamory next?

by Ken Ham

“Princeton University professor Robert P. George warned in ‘Is Polyamory Next?’ for The American Interest in 2015 that homosexual ‘marriage’ opens the door to marriage that includes more than two persons.”

“‘If gender doesn’t matter for marriage, they ask, why should number matter?’ he asked. ‘If love makes a family,’ as the slogan went when the cause being advanced was gay marriage, then why should their family be treated as second class? Why should their marriage be denied legal recognition and the dignity and social standing that come with it?” Read the rest of this entry

Is the United States a Christian nation?

Is the Unites States a Christian nation?  The best way to answer that question is to look at what is happening in America and then compare that with what the Bible says.

In Roe v Wade the Supreme Court ruled that any woman who was pregnant had a right to end the pregnancy by aborting her baby.  The Bible calls children a blessing from God. Read the rest of this entry

Why Christians oppose same sex marriage

Whenever someone opposes same sex marriage he is accused of hating gays and his opinions are often called hate speech.  Proponents of same sex marriage have attacked those who oppose it and have caused some to lose their jobs and have their businesses ruined.  Some people do hate gays but Christians who oppose same sex marriage do so because we care about gays and want to protect them the harm that they will experience.

To see why this is so we need to look at what the Bible says about marriage.  The first marriage was between the first man and the first woman. Read the rest of this entry

Them Before Us

God established marriage as a lifelong union between a man and a woman.  One purpose was to ensure that every child would be brought up and trained by his biological parents.

Did he not make them one, with a portion of the Spirit in their union? And what was the one God seeking? Godly offspring. So guard yourselves in your spirit, and let none of you be faithless to the wife of your youth.  (Malachi 2:15)

Sometimes this plan is disrupted by the death of one or both of the parents.  This is unfortunate but it isn’t anyone’s fault.  But sometimes the plan is disrupted because of the actions of one or both of the parents.  Parents get divorced or conceive children without getting married.  Children may end up being raised by a gay couple; they have two mothers or two fathers, rather than having a mother and a father as God intended.  These situations usually come about because people care more about their rights than they do about the welfare of their children.  There is an organization called Them Before Us that seeks to remind us of our responsibilities to our children both by stories of how children are affected and by scientific studies that show that God’s plan is best.

Transgenders and same sex marriage

The Bible teaches that marriage is between a man and a woman and that in God’s eyes a same sex “marriage” is not a marriage at all.  This is simple and is something that anyone can easily understand.  At least it would be simple if it weren’t for the current transgender movement.  A transgender person is one who perceives himself to be of the opposite to his biological sex.  Some transgenders go far as to have sex change surgery which makes them appear to be of the opposite sex.  When one of these people decides to marry the question of what is a same sex marriage becomes unclear.

Suppose a man and a woman decide to marry.  If one of them was born as a member of the opposite sex and had a sex change operation is their marriage legitimate or is it a same sex union?

Suppose two members of the same sex want to marry but one of them was born as a member of the opposite sex.  Is their marriage a same sex marriage or do they have a right to get married according to God’s laws?

Each cell in the human body contains 23 pairs of chromosomes.  One pair determines the sex of the individual.  Each chromosome is either an x or a y chromosome.  A person with two x chromosomes is female, while one with an x and a y is male.  Sex change operations have no effect on a person’s chromosomes.  If a same sex couple marries and one of them is transgender, they are technically of different genders, so the marriage is permissible, but the cisgender member of the marriage is engaging in sexual activity with a person who is outwardly of the same gender, so he is violating the prohibition against sexual involvement between members of the same sex.

The transgender movement has raised a lot of questions about sex and marriage that we didn’t need to think about in the past.  I don’t know the answers to these questions but I believe Christians should be aware of them so we can find answers and be prepared when we encounter these situations in real life.

One flesh

God created Adam, the first man, out of dust.  Adam couldn’t find a helper that suited him so God made him fall into a deep sleep and removed one of his ribs.

And the rib that the LORD God had taken from the man he made into a woman and brought her to the man. Then the man said, “This at last is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.”

Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.
Genesis 2:22-24

The union between Adam and Eve was the first marriage and it is the pattern for all subsequent marriages. Read the rest of this entry

Gay marriage and same sex marriage

I believe in gay marriage.  Gay people have the same right to marry that straight people do.

I believe that God established marriage as a union between a man and a woman.  A “marriage” between two men and two women is a sin.

Do these statements seem contradictory to you?  There is a lot of confusion on this subject because most people use the terms “gay marriage” and “same sex marriage” interchangeably.  In fact they do not mean the same thing.

Marriage equality

Marriage began when God created Eve to be a wife for Adam.

Then the man said,  “This at last is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.”

Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.
Genesis 2:23-24

The first marriage was a union between the first man and the first woman that God created.  Ever since then, marriage has been considered a union between a man and a woman.  This isn’t just a Christian belief but a practice by all religions and all cultures throughout history.  There have been different beliefs about some aspects of marriage.  Some cultures consider marriage a permanent union while other allow a person to divorce his spouse and marry someone else.  Some consider it a union between one man and one woman while others allow a man to have more than one wife.  But until recently it has universally been a state that can exist only between a man and a woman.

Now there is a movement to establish “marriage equality” between gay and straight people by legalizing marriage between two people of the same sex.  Is the restriction of marriage to a man and a woman just an arbitrary rule or is there some fundamental reason why two members of the same sex can’t marry each other?

Gays who follow Christ

The gay rights movement is promoting the legalization of same sex marriage and the belief that homosexual activity is as normal as heterosexual activity.  Anyone who opposes these goals is accused of hating gays.

In some cases the accusation is true.  There are people who hate gays; the existence of the Westboro Baptist Church and organizations like it is evidence of this.  But there are others whose opposition is motivated by love.

God established marriage as a union between a man and a woman and has forbidden any sexual activity outside of this union.  Anyone who truly loves gay people will warn them of the dangers of violating God’s commands rather than encouraging disobedience.

There is a common misconception that all gays support the gay rights movement.  In fact there are many gay Christians who oppose it because they recognize the harm it does.  Here are three web sites where you can learn more about them.

The log in our eye

Marriage was established by God and like everything else God does it is the object of Satan’s attacks.  Marriage is intended to symbolize the relationship between God and the people who worship him.  In the Old Testament Israel is called the wife of God and in the New the church is referred to as the bride of Christ.  In both cases God is represented by the male partner in the marriage and the people by the female.   A union between two men or two women doesn’t show this relationship.  That is why Christians must oppose the drive to legalize same sex marriage.

But in our zeal to defend against Satan’s attack on one front we have left another one completely unguarded and allowed Satan to win a major victory. Read the rest of this entry

Washed and Waiting: the story of a gay Christian

What is it like to be a Christian who believes the Bible’s teaching that homosexual activity is a sin and who realizes that he is sexually attracted to others of his sex?  Wesley Hill knows the answer to that question.  He decided that the only way he could be obedient to the Bible was to live a life of celibacy.  He has written a book called Washed and Waiting in which he describes his experiences.  Here is what he says about his reasons for writing the book: Read the rest of this entry
