The battle against abortion is both political and spiritual. We need to change laws so that unborn babies are protected, but we also need to pray for all who are involved in this activity. We must pray that women who are considering abortion will receive the help they need to give birth to their child and support him after he is born. We must pray that those who are involved in the business of providing abortions will recognize repent of their sin. We must pray that all children will be allowed to be born.
Ending abortion is only the first step. Jesus said that unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God. We must pray that those babies whose lives are saved by our efforts will go on to experience the second birth.
Philippians 3:20 says of Christians,
Our citizenship is in Heaven.
When someone is naturalized as a citizen of a country he gives up whatever citizenship he previously had and no longer has any allegiance to his former country. So does this mean that when we became Christians we gave up our citizenship in our earthly country? It is possible to expend a lot of energy without accomplishing anything useful. Paul warned against such useless efforts in 1 Corinthians 9:24-27.
Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one receives the prize? So run that you may obtain it. Every athlete exercises self-control in all things. They do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable. So I do not run aimlessly; I do not box as one beating the air.
