Emily Thomes

Emily Thomes once lived a lesbian lifestyle.  She considered herself a Christian but only believed those parts of the Bible that didn’t condemn her way of life.  She began attending a Bible study about the attributes of God and as she came to understand God better she also began to see herself as she really was.  Here is her description of what happened.

I was grieved that my whole life I’d been sinning against Him, not only in my dating life but in every other way, too. My drunkenness, my haughtiness, my refusal to submit to what had been plain in His word all along but that I’d denied because I didn’t want to give up my autonomy; I claimed faith but had no concern with what God actually said or wanted of me. I was overwhelmed with the love and mercy He was showing me in letting me live long enough to repent and truly trust in Him. I didn’t know what my life would be like or what I was going to do, but I knew what I was not going to do anymore. It was incredibly clear. That day was the day the Lord granted me eyes to see Him as holy and righteous and myself as a sinner desperately in need of His forgiveness and grace.

Gays who follow Christ

The gay rights movement is promoting the legalization of same sex marriage and the belief that homosexual activity is as normal as heterosexual activity.  Anyone who opposes these goals is accused of hating gays.

In some cases the accusation is true.  There are people who hate gays; the existence of the Westboro Baptist Church and organizations like it is evidence of this.  But there are others whose opposition is motivated by love.

God established marriage as a union between a man and a woman and has forbidden any sexual activity outside of this union.  Anyone who truly loves gay people will warn them of the dangers of violating God’s commands rather than encouraging disobedience.

There is a common misconception that all gays support the gay rights movement.  In fact there are many gay Christians who oppose it because they recognize the harm it does.  Here are three web sites where you can learn more about them.

Know who your enemy is

There is a war going on between God and Satan.  When someone becomes a Christian he becomes a soldier in God’s army and a participant in that war.  In order to wage war effectively we must know who our enemy is.

When we look at what is going on in the world we see many who are doing and advocating things that violate God’s commands.  Some believe that women should have the absolute right to kill their unborn children.  Others believe there is nothing wrong with homosexual activity and that the government should allow marriages between two people of the same sex.  Militant Muslims use force to impose their beliefs on others.

These people are not the ones we are fighting.

Westboro and Equality House

You shall be careful therefore to do as the LORD your God has commanded you. You shall not turn aside to the right hand or to the left.
Deuteronomy 5:32

God doesn’t simply say we must obey but warns about turning to the right or to the left.  That is because there are two opposite ways in which we can disobey each command.

Born that way?

Some people are sexually attracted to members of their own sex.  There are different opinions about why this is true.  Some people believe this condition the result of their experiences but others believe it is has a genetic cause.  It is possible that different people are homosexuals for different reasons but the Bible gives us reason to believe that at least some people are gay because they were born that way. Washed and Waiting: the story of a gay Christian

What is it like to be a Christian who believes the Bible’s teaching that homosexual activity is a sin and who realizes that he is sexually attracted to others of his sex?  Wesley Hill knows the answer to that question.  He decided that the only way he could be obedient to the Bible was to live a life of celibacy.  He has written a book called Washed and Waiting in which he describes his experiences.  Here is what he says about his reasons for writing the book: Read the rest of this entry
