Friendship

Here is something I read on Facebook.

Friendship

by Rachel Jankovic

🦈The world is currently working really hard to get us all to behave like a bunch of hideous friendship loan sharks, constantly calculating what others are giving to us and sending them letters with OVERDUE!!! Stamped on them. Sometimes we send out our thugs to publicly shame them on the internet. 😂

🦈Christians are not to be living by the world’s rules- and in those areas where our faith is foolishness to the world we cannot expect their support. We cannot be listening to their lies which tell us how to run our lives.

🦈You took someone a meal? They owe you NOTHING. You did a thoughtful thing for a friend? It should not have any entangling interest payments. They should owe you NOTHING.

🦈We can give without expectation of return (from a friend) because at a fundamental level we are always giving to God. We offer it to Him. And it is more blessed to give than to receive because in giving you are also receiving blessing from God. “Blessed” is defined by our Father and not by our own wish list.

🦈God does not tell us that it is more fun to give or immediately clearly the better choice. He tells us that it is MORE BLESSED.

🦈When Paul quotes Jesus on this, it is at a time when he is himself being stretched and things are not easy. “I have shown you in every way, by laboring like this, that you must support the weak. And remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’ ””
‭‭Acts‬ ‭20:35‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

🦈And remember that he is quoting Jesus- the man we call ourselves after. Was the life of Christ characterized by his inpouring and very fair friendships? Did Christ remove from Himself all the people that didn’t contribute to His growth? Or has He called you friend? Has He called me friend? He has. And that is a very meaningful thing.

⭐️ “No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you.”
‭‭John‬ ‭15:15‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

⭐️⭐️⭐️Now that is a friendship to live for!⭐️⭐️⭐️

  1. “Whatever you do, work at it with your whole being, for the Lord and not for men, because you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as your reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.…” (Col. 3: 23-24).

  2. I have always preferred the version of the Lord’s prayer that says “Forgive us our DEBTS as we forgive our debtors,” rather than “trespasses,” not just because I was raised on the first. I am one who fights the expectation of something in return when I’ve given, even if it’s just a “thanks you.” One day the Lord pointed out to me that “debts” refers to ANYthing that another person “owes” me, whether it’s an apology or a “thank you.”
