The body of Christ

Here is something I read on Facebook.

The body of Christ

by Joshua Arnold

When a person stubs their toe or cuts their foot, the entire body immediately does everything it can to come to the rescue. The knee immediately bends itself without hesitation, and both hands come to serve and comfort the foot without delay. The rest of the whole body forsakes its own concerns, and caters to the foot, even if other parts of the body have some minor wounds or injuries itself.

This is natural for a body to do. It didn’t have to learn it. It does it naturally out of love, and true concern. And those of us in Christ are part of an infinitely more valuable and glorious body. We are the body of Christ (1 Cor 12:27), and the more we realize this, the less contention and strife there will be over secondary issues.

There is no reason to be so brutal with other members of the body, just because they are in error on some secondary issues. Those errors should be seen as injuries or wounds. If a person cut their foot, they wouldn’t bend down and start punching or slapping their foot for it. With patience, they would do what they could to set everything in order. And if that is how a natural body naturally responds, we should expect much more from a glorious spiritual body that is what it is because of grace.

For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy. (Exodus 20:11)
