A broken heart

Here is something I read on Facebook.

A broken heart

by Joshua Arnold

The broken-hearted man is a person who has had his heart broken by the word of God, and the word “broken” is to be understood in the same sense as it is understood when we speak of “broken bones”. Bones that are broken are disabled bones. They cannot do what they once did.

And so the broken-hearted man is a man whose heart has been disabled from living in sin the way he once did. His heart is crippled from walking strong in sin. It has truly been crippled by the word of God.
His spirit is contrite. He is truly repentant.

He is sensible of things which the unregenerate man is not sensible of. Unlike the unregenerate man, the broken-hearted man smells the foulness of the running sores of sin on himself, and it gags him. He hears when his soul’s joints are out of socket, loudly popping in and out when he isn’t walking upright with the Lord. He feels the weightiness of sin, and it is terribly heavy to go on carrying sin. And he sees sin in the mind and heart, which bothers him. The very fact that his heart harbors sin, and his mind contemplates the enjoyment of sin, is repulsive to him.
