Transgender – the other side of the story

There is a lot of news about transgender people in the media today.  Most of the stories support the belief that some people are really of the opposite gender of the bodies they are born in and we need to support their decision to live as their “real” gender.  Among other things this means they should be allowed to use the restrooms and dressing rooms of their choice and not be be limited to using the ones assigned to their physical gender.  Anyone who objects is condemned as being transphobic.

Although we live in a culture which believes we should affirm transgenders by allowing them to live as they choose there are still some who disagree with this.  Here are some sites that reject the popular views.

I created this site because mine is a viewpoint that is seldom publicly heard: that of a left-leaning parent who is critical of the dominant paradigm regarding transgender politics and treatment. My primary concern is children, teens, and people in their early 20s, particularly girls who are contemplating medical transition. While I may disagree with their views, I do understand that consenting adults have the right to do what they choose with their own bodies and minds.

Online, I have been accused of being “unsupportive,” even “abusive,” simply for daring to question whether lifelong medical treatment–injections and plastic surgeries–is the answer for every young person who has gender dysphoria. In my world, caring about, listening to, and lovingly parenting a child or young adult is not necessarily a synonym for unexamined “support” for everything the child says or wants. In fact, one of the main jobs in parenting a teen is, not coercion, but the offering of alternatives; discussing, and sometimes disagreeing.

It is my contention that the medical and psychological establishments are letting us all down in their rush to diagnose young people as “transgender,” then to give the message that medical treatment is the answer. Much of my writing now and in the future will focus on the adults who are pushing so many kids into extreme treatments. And I do consider hormones and surgery extreme treatment, if there is any possibility that something less drastic might be a solution.

Most of the voices in the media and in medicine are in opposition to my views. I’m presenting an alternative.

In my view, the transgender activists are so busy lobbying for new laws of protection that they ignore the 31% suicide rate.

Sex change regret, sadly, can and has resulted in suicide. We only need to remember Mike Penner, aka Christine Daniels, staff writer for the Los Angeles Times, who committed suicide in late 2009.In a U.S.A. Today article dated 2/26/09 Steve Friess says: “(Mike) Penner’s story, heralded in its early days as a triumphant example of transgender progress, has instead become a cautionary tale of the lesser-known phenomenon: transgender regret.”

The warning signs of suicide are often difficult to see, and for transsexuals, the high rate of suicide has been underreported. An article in Metabolism says that the suicide rate among transsexuals was five times greater than was expected when compared to a similar group.

We are a group of parents based in the UK, who are concerned about the current trend to diagnose ‘gender non-conforming’ children as transgender. We reject current conservative, reactionary, religious-fundamentalist views about sexuality and we have no political affiliation. We are also concerned about legislation which places transgender rights above the right to safety for girls and young women in public bathrooms and changing rooms.

We come from diverse backgrounds, some with expertise in child development and psychology, some who were themselves extreme gender non-conforming children and adolescents, some whose own children have self-diagnosed as ‘trans’ and some who know supportive trans adults who are also questioning recent theories of ‘transgenderism.’

Women and men (and especially women, at an alarming rate) are being barred from institutions and speaking engagements and employment because they are openly skeptical of aspects of the transgender narrative. Transgender people certainly refuse to give people with our perspective “equal time” in their spaces.  This space is to document what exists in the transgender forums in some parts of the internet.  We’re not here to have this behavior handwaved away.  We’re not interested in the trans party line on brain studies supposedly proving that “brain sex” is real, that “gender identity” is inborn, why you think biological sex is a spectrum, or anything else.  If you want to discuss those topics, find a forum more willing to accept your commentary–this is not one of them.

This is a place for us to document the cult-like tactics of the trans community, the abusers being shielded by the trans community to further their politics, and the recruitment tactics of young people into transgender beliefs.  If you’re not here to discuss these issues, comment on a different blog.

If you search the internet you can probably find other sites like these.  A lot of people believe that the only ones opposing the transgender movement are Bible believing Christians.  None of the sites I have mentioned are Christian sites.  There are a lot of nonChristians who share our opinions on the transgender movement.  If you do want a Christian perspective I recommend this site:

The Bible doesn’t say anything about the transgender movement but I think Deuteronomy 22:5 applies to it.

A woman shall not wear a man’s garment, nor shall a man put on a woman’s cloak, for whoever does these things is an abomination to the Lord your God.

If it is wrong to even wear clothes that are meant for the opposite sex how much greater is the sin of having a body which has been surgically altered so that it appears to be of the opposite sex?

  2. Great points, and thanks for the links. It’s amazing the amount of censorship, retaliation and intolerance that occurs for those who don’t conform to the trans narrative.
