Scientific evidence for creation

The Bible tells us that God created the earth in six days.  Many scientists who have studied the earth and tried to measure its age have reached the conclusion that is approximately 4.5 billion years old.  Most people accept the second view as being correct; they believe that scientists examine the evidence with an open mind and believe only those things which have been proven.

The late Carl Sagan wrote many books proving that the present state of the earth and the rest of the universe is the result of processes that took billions of years.  He helped to produce a television series called Cosmos that was broadcast in 1980 and claimed to show how the universe developed.

But was Sagan really open minded?  He began the Cosmos broadcasts with this statement, “The cosmos is all that is, all there ever was, and all there ever will be.”  In other words, he said that there is no God.  He didn’t prove the Bible account of creation was wrong; he simply assumed it was wrong and interpreted the data to conform to what he already believed.  Of course anyone who doesn’t believe in God must believe that the earth and the universe are billions of years old and that life evolved over a long period of time whether or not there is any evidence for these beliefs or not.

Very few researchers openly deny the existence of God the way Sagan did but they conduct their research as if they agreed with him.  They collect and examine data but they assume that the natural processes we see today have always been taking place and they don’t take into consideration the possibility of divine intervention in the past.  For most this assumption is subconscious and even those who believe in God don’t recognize their bias.  As a result there are many Bible believers who believe the earth is old.  They reconcile this belief with the Bible by saying the the Bible accounts of the creation and the flood aren’t to be interpreted literally.

There is a lot of scientific evidence that supports the Bible but it is ignored or explained away by those who believe in an old earth and most people aren’t even aware that it exists.  Here are some websites where you can learn about some of this evidence.

Answers in Genesis

Answers in Genesis is an apologetics (i.e., Christianity-defending) ministry, dedicated to enabling Christians to defend their faith and to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ effectively. We focus particularly on providing answers to questions surrounding the book of Genesis, as it is the most-attacked book of the Bible. We also desire to train others to develop a biblical worldview, and seek to expose the bankruptcy of evolutionary ideas, and its bedfellow, a “millions of years old” earth (and even older universe).

AiG teaches that “facts” don’t speak for themselves, but must be interpreted. That is, there aren’t separate sets of “evidences” for evolution and creation—we all deal with the same evidence (we all live on the same earth, have the same fossils, observe the same animals, etc.). The difference lies in how we interpret what we study. The Bible—the “history book of the universe”—provides a reliable, eye-witness account of the beginning of all things, and can be trusted to tell the truth in all areas it touches on. Therefore, we are able to use it to help us make sense of this present world. When properly understood, the “evidence” confirms the biblical account.

For an elaboration of AiG’s presuppositional thrust check out our Answers section—for example, learn how the Bible offers the best explanation of the world’s geology, astronomy, and genetics. Also, for information on the issues we deal with and which ones we don’t, see “Where Do We Draw the Line?”

Piltdown Superman

Each day Piltdown Superman publishes an article from another creationist site.  In addition to what you learn directly from the site you will also find other sources of information.  The owner of the site also has two blogs.

There is one feature of these blogs that I dislike very much.  The author doesn’t post new material very often.  However this is understandable since he obviously spends a lot of time working on his main site.

Biblical Geology

When dinosaur fossils first began to be studied some scientists thought that they were a result of the worldwide flood in Noah’s time.  This view has been abandoned because so many no longer believe the flood actually occurred.  This site presents evidence that the flood is the best explanation for the existence of fossils and for the present day geology of the earth.

Six Days Blog

Here is what the author says about the purpose of his blog.

The purpose of this blog will firstly be to uphold scripture as a reliable foundation of truth, and secondly to present and defend the Young Earth Creationist position (YEC). In the course of blogging I hope to have real, in-depth discussions and respectful debates on these subjects. As a Christian I recognize there are many different views and opinions on the creation v.s. evolution topic, and I hope we can explore and discuss these various beliefs and views on a broad number of related topics. My request is that anyone who wishes to participate in discussions show proper respect, even in the midst of a heated or divisive argument.

Science Against Evolution

Many people who believe in evolution think that the only reason people reject it is because it conflicts with their religious beliefs.  This site doesn’t promote any kind of religion but merely show the scientific evidence against evolution.

Since 1996, it has been Science Against Evolution’s objective to make the general public aware that the theory of evolution is not consistent with physical evidence and is no longer a respectable theory describing the origin and diversity of life.

When we talk about “evolution,” we don’t mean, “any kind of change.” Nor do we mean minor variations that result from natural selection. We use the term “evolution” to mean,
“The doctrine that unguided natural forces caused chemicals to combine in such a way that life resulted; and that all living things have descended from that common ancestral form of life.”

If you believe that science has proved that the Bible’s account of creation is wrong I invite you to visit these sites and try to examine the evidence they present with an open mind.

  1. Well said. Carl Sagan was quick to assume the Bible was wrong, and quick to assume that nature could account for our existence, or the existence of the universe. Sadly there are many who follow his line of thinking without understanding how these assumptions could possibly be wrong.

Nope, all he was doing was defining what the cosmos is. If there is a God, God will be part of the cosmos by definition. Sagan didn’t even consider himself to be an atheist.

    • God, by definition, is the creator of the cosmos and can’t be part of it. Sagan’s definition allows the existence of lesser gods, such as those found in Greek and Roman mythology, but denies the existence of the God that Christians worship. He was in fact an atheist whether he considered himself one or not.

Discussing Biblical Authority
