Identity theft

Identity theft is a major problem and all of us must take precautions to protect ourselves from it.  It is not a new problem; Christians have been victims of it in the past.  In fact we have had more that one identity stolen from us.

The word Muslim means “one who submits to God.”  God commands everyone to repent of sin and come to Christ for salvation.  Those who have done this have submitted to God and so are really Muslims.  The name has been stolen from us by the followers of Muhammad.

A group of people who call themselves Jehovah’s Witnesses goes door to door promoting false teaching about the Bible and distributing copies of Watchtower magazine.  They stole their name from Christians; we are the true witnesses of Jehovah.

In the Bible Christians are referred to as saints.  There are many indications we are nearing the time when Christ will return.  The time we are living in could be described as the latter days, which would make us latter day saints.  The Mormon church has stolen this name from us; its official name is the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Many scientists are Christians.  The could be called Christian scientists if it weren’t for the existence of a religion that calls itself Christian Science.  Christian Science is guilty of two counts of identity theft.  It is neither Christian nor science.

If you have repented of your sins and placed your faith in Jesus Christ you are a Muslim, a Jehovah’s witness, and a latter day saint.  If you are a scientist you are a Christian scientist.  All of these identities have been stolen from you.  If you used any of these terms to describe yourself others would form a completely false idea of what you believe.

Discussing Biblical Authority

For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy. (Exodus 20:11)
