TANSTAAFL
TANSTAAFL – This stands for “There Ain’t No Such Thing As A Free Lunch.” This phrase probably originated at a time when it was a common practice for saloons to offer free food to anyone who bought a drink. The food wasn’t really free because the price the saloons charged for the drinks was high enough to cover the cost.
This statement is true in many areas of life. Things that we are told are free really aren’t; we are paying for them in ways that aren’t apparent to us.
This isn’t true when we deal with God. When he says something is free it really is.
Come, everyone who thirsts,
come to the waters;
and he who has no money,
come, buy and eat!
Come, buy wine and milk
without money and without price.
(Isaiah 55:1 ESV)
For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.Romans 6:23
If we stop relying on people and start trusting God we exchange TANSTAAFL for TIAFLBAD – There Is A Free Lunch, Breakfast, And Dinner.
